Monument Anglais de 1914 a Thiepval (1932 footage)

An interesting clip from the French website Ina.fr which shows footage of the area round Thiepval – the Ulster Tower looks strange without the trees while the Thiepval Memorial appears as if it has just been completed (the film is dated 1932).  Perhaps the oddest element is the amount of battlefield debris still lying around fourteen years later – helmets, rifles and trench duckboards still in place.  The whole subject of the reconstruction of the devastated areas needs further examination.
